Artist Statement
My art is inspired by the natural world and the quiet, unseen moments that hold emotional depth. Working in a style that blends abstract realism with impressionistic elements, I strive to create paintings that evoke serenity, reflection, and the passage of time. Through soft forms, gentle movement, and light-infused imagery, my work invites the viewer to slow down and reconnect with a sense of calm.
My process is deeply intuitive and layered. Using mixed media—primarily oil paint combined with drawing materials and texture mediums—I build each painting gradually. Working in layers allows me to create depth and atmosphere, while mark making and texture add a tactile, emotional quality. The result is a soft, misty, and dreamy effect that feels both grounded and ethereal, like a memory just beyond reach.
In a world that often feels loud and chaotic, my goal is to offer a visual sanctuary. Each piece is created with the intention of transporting the viewer to a place of peace and stillness—a moment of quiet amid the noise. I hope my art serves as a gentle reminder of the beauty that exists when we pause, breathe, and simply be.
Maria Barletta: Bio
Maria Barletta is a Connecticut-based oil painter whose work blends abstract realism with impressionistic elements, creating soft, atmospheric landscapes filled with emotion, movement, and serenity. Inspired by nature, light, and the beauty found in quiet moments, her paintings invite viewers into a dreamlike world that encourages reflection, peace, and connection.
Working primarily in oils, Maria is known for her ethereal style and layered compositions that capture both the feeling and spirit of a place rather than simply its appearance. Her work is deeply rooted in emotion and storytelling, often inspired by the changing seasons, woodland landscapes, and the stillness of the natural world surrounding her studio.
After raising her family, Maria returned to her lifelong passion for art and further developed her artistic voice through the Milan Art Institute’s Mastery Program. Alongside her fine art career, she has also become known for her whimsical Magical Fairy Collection — lifelike fairy sculptures and handcrafted fairy houses that have been collected by admirers around the world for more than 15 years.
In June 2026, Maria opened the new Fine Art by Maria Barletta Gallery at 556 Main Street in Branford, alongside Wonderland Photography CT. The gallery offers an elegant and welcoming creative space featuring original paintings, curated collections, events, Paint & Sip experiences, and artistic gatherings designed to inspire creativity and connection.
Maria continues to create from her gallery studio in Branford, where visitors are often able to experience her creative process firsthand. Surrounded by art, photography, and thoughtfully curated collections, she paints with the intention of creating work that brings beauty, emotion, and a sense of calm into everyday life. Through her paintings, Maria hopes to offer viewers a moment of stillness, inspiration, and connection in an ever-changing world.
